FIRE MECHANIC I
 
The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) is now accepting applications for the position of Fire Mechanic I. The position is in Pay Range 3, Mechanic I, which is $20.33 to $27.33 per hour. This hourly amount includes a retirement subsidy, currently set at 5.7%. 
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK: Under the direction of the Fleet Services Manager, the Fire Mechanic I is responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled work in maintaining light duty vehicles and mechanical equipment of the fire department as assigned by the Fleet Services Manager. A position description is attached hereto. Candidates must be able to perform all aspects of the position as detailed in the position description. Candidates must provide their own set of mechanic’s hand and air tools. 
 
This is a full-time, 40 hour-per-week non-exempt position; the work schedule may consist of four (4) 10hour days or five (5) 8 hour days, Monday through Friday, as designated by the supervisor. The successful applicant must meet district residency requirements. This is a non-tobacco use position. This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System, which requires mandatory contributions. 
 
To be considered for this position, a completed application must be submitted to CAFMA by the deadline. Only complete applications will be evaluated. Only the highest ranking applicants will be chosen to continue with the selection process, based on their education and actual experience and background as indicated on their applications.
 
Applicants chosen to proceed in the selection process can expect a written skills test, followed by a practical skills test and an oral review panel. Applicants selected to participate in the testing process will be notified by telephone or mail of the specific dates, times and locations of testing activities. It is anticipated that the written test will be conducted during the week of June 12, 2017. 
 
CAFMA will conduct an extensive employment background check on the candidate receiving a job offer. The final candidate must complete a fingerprint background check to assess criminal history at both the state and federal level. A motor vehicle record check will also be performed. Additionally, the final candidate will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test, and will be required to pass a physical and psychological examination determining fitness for duty. Candidates must be insurable by the District's insurance carrier, and possess or be able to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license at time of appointment.

BACKGROUND
 
The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) was created on July 1, 2016. CAFMA is the product of a Joint Powers Authority between Central Yavapai Fire District (CYFD) and Chino Valley Fire District (CVFD.) Administration of the Fire Authority is overseen by a five member appointed board, made up of members of the CYFD and CVFD elected fire boards, providing direction to the Fire Chief. CAFMA is located in central Yavapai County and provides professional emergency services to over 240 square miles. In addition, the Fire Authority provides many nonemergency responses and community services. Contained in the District’s boundaries are the Towns of Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Dewey-Humboldt, as well as the unincorporated areas of Paulden, Williamson Valley, Ponderosa Park, Highland Pines, Diamond Valley, Old Black Canyon area and Coyote Springs. The Fire Authority borders the City of Prescott, the Prescott National Forest, and Arizona State Land.
 
CAFMA employs approximately 145 full time personnel in operational and nonoperational positions. The Fire Authority currently provides service from ten staffed stations and two reserve stations. 
 
Three divisions exist which are supervised by the Fire Chief. These are Administration, Operations, and Planning and Logistics. Fleet Services is assigned to the Planning and Logistics Division. Each division has an assistant chief to oversee activities and provide direction. 
 
 
WORK SCHEDULE, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
 
Work Schedule
 
The work schedule for Fleet Services is based on a 40-hour work week. The schedule may consist of five (5) 8-hour days or four (4) 10-hour days, occurring Monday through Friday, at the discretion of the Fleet Services Manager. The position also requires being on-call for emergencies after hours and on weekends, in a divisional rotation. Occasionally overtime is authorized for special situations. 
 
Compensation
 
This is a non-exempt hourly position with an hourly rate of $20.33 (Step 1) to $27.33 (Step 13), which includes a 5.7% retirement subsidy.
 
 
 
Employees are eligible for a merit increase (currently set at 2.5% annually) based on an “exceeds department standards” evaluation. Employees are evaluated every 90 days during the first year of employment, then annually thereafter.

PROBATION / EVALUATIONS
 
There will be a one-year probationary period for this position. Probationary evaluations are completed quarterly. Employee must maintain a “Meets Standards” rating in the “Core Values” section of personnel evaluations to be able to continue employment.
